Asad Mahmood from NTT DATA Business Solutions UK&I will present Data masking with SAP HANA and SAP Analytics Cloud.
In this session, Asad will share his experiences in masking and anonymising data. This provides data confidentiality when being consumed by end users. The session is targeted at IT developers that may be responsible for implementing these safeguards in the data layer but is also aimed at business stakeholders that are responsible for the confidentiality of sensitive data.
Businesses in many situations are required to hold personal and sensitive information. This can exist in transactional and analytical systems alike. This session will focus on the analytical use cases associated with such data. Whilst it is necessary for certain business users to access such data, it is also often the case, that such data needs to controlled and kept from widespread access. Clearly, the precise access requirements will vary depending on the circumstances.
Whilst some level of arbitrary data transformation may hide such sensitive data, it can be a risky approach as the transformations may not be robust enough to avoid the risk of this data being inferred from the remaining and visible attributes.
With appropriate data anonymization, the data can be used for statistical and analytical purposes whilst preserving its privacy. Data masking techniques are designed to protect sensitive data so that it is partially or completely meaningless for unprivileged users. Equally, it can be fully available and meaningful for privileged users. This varying level of access to this sensitive data can be defined at the source. This ensures that any downstream applications inherit this data access definition.
Asad will take you through practical demonstrations of these techniques using SAP Analytics Cloud as the front-end tool for reporting and analysis. This will be combined with the SAP analytics roadmap and relevant experiences from customer projects.
