The Config Team Donates £2000 to Worthy Causes

At The Config Team, we have always supported worthwhile causes, and now more than ever it is important to be able to give back where we can.

This year we have introduced MakeAChange (MaC), an employee giving scheme which allows all our colleagues a £200 giving pot that the company will donate to charitable causes of their choice.

Colleagues being empowered to choose how their donations are directed ensures that the causes we support really matter to our team and are close to their hearts. It also gives us a huge amount of reach and variety, meaning that some smaller, but equally important causes, that would otherwise have slipped under the radar, benefit from our support just as much as larger organisations.

Since its launch in March, the scheme has been taken up enthusiastically, with no signs of slowing down. So far, we have been able to donate £2000 to a wide range of fantastic local, national and international causes.

We are delighted at how much careful consideration has clearly gone into the team’s choices. PMO Project Manager Rachel decided to support the Friends of Rufford PTA, which is aiming to help her daughter’s school, Rufford C of E Primary, to develop an outdoor area to support the children’s physical development and she commented: “Children have missed out on so much throughout lockdown and the PTA are trying to help improve the school and ensure that the children are happy with lots of fun learning resources. Outdoor play is not encouraged enough in my view and we should absolutely do all we can to encourage our children”.

Functional Consultant Toby has decided to direct his donation to Mermaids UK, a charity that means a lot to him that assists transgender and nonbinary children and young people in navigating the transition process, stating that: “Mermaids UK has been really helpful in assisting some of my friends with their transition process and I think it’s a very worthy cause in the current climate, where trans people are increasingly under the spotlight”.

Choosing to donate to an international cause, Associate Consultant Habi is using her giving pot to support the amazing work done by the SIKAFOMOROKUNDABUNTUNGHO Foundation, a charity founded last year by her father, alongside other Gambians living in the diaspora, which aims to support the infrastructure building projects in the village of Sika. She told us: “This charity is very dear to my heart as it helps the people that need it the most in my home country. Being one of the few lucky Gambians that was able to emigrate to build a better life, it is very important to me to give back”. Our donation will go towards its next project, to build a small medical centre in the village, which currently has no medical access, with the nearest hospital a two-hour drive away.

These are just some of the amazing causes that our employees have chosen to donate to, and we are very much looking forward to seeing who else we will be able to help in the coming months as part of the MaC programme.
