Stock Room Management was launched in response to SAP ending support for its Warehouse Management (WM) solution in 2027. It is the ideal solution for companies that have small, simple warehouse processes and would not benefit from immediately moving to the comprehensive functionality of SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM).
The transition to Stock Room Management from WM will not cause any disruption to customer operations, as the components utilise the same data model. The difference is that while WM is a component in ECC, Stock Room Management is a component specifically for S/4HANA and while it covers many of the same processes, it is targeted solely at basic warehouse management requirements.
Stock Room Management includes key functionalities from WM that can continue to be used as normal following the migration. However, there are some WM functionalities that will not be part of Stock Room Management, including;
While the solution has been designed for those customers currently running WM, any new or existing customer can use Stock Room Management as part of the SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management license. It is also useful to consider that it is not a choice between Stock Room Management or EWM across the company, the best solution for some businesses may be to adopt a hybrid approach to warehouse management. This would involve implementing both solutions, with Stock Room Management used within smaller warehouse with minimal processes, and EWM introduced at larger sites with more complex supply chain processes.
Stock Room Management is an integral component of S/4HANA and included in its ongoing release and maintenance strategy. However, there will be no additional investment in Stock Room Management in regards to innovations, enhanced functionality and development of mobile applications. SAP’s strategic solution for warehouse management is EWM, which is where any innovations for warehousing capabilities will be delivered.
