NTT DATA Business Solutions Expands Environmental and Community Impact Initiative

London, UK – 9^th May 2024, Building on the success of its previous sustainability projects, NTT DATA Business Solutions is delighted to announce the Q4 most voted project in their “One Day One Tree” initiative. The overwhelming winner, as voted by UK employees is a new reforestation project that will take root in Madagascar, enhancing local biodiversity and bolstering community development.

The selected project, part of the ‘Adopt a Farmer’ initiative, will not only plant 15,000 trees to establish a branded forest for NTT DATA Business Solutions but also provide stable employment for a local farmer for an entire year. This effort will combat the critical deforestation issues in Madagascar, where over 90% of primary forests have been lost, impacting biodiversity, and heightening the vulnerability of coastal communities to natural disasters.

Andy Steer, VP & Chief Partner Officer at NTT DATA Business Solutions, expressed his enthusiasm: “The One Day One Tree sustainability initiative sees the company plant a tree for every Consulting and SAP Managed Services day it delivers each quarter. With this latest contribution, NTT DATA Business Solutions has now planted over 115,000 trees since the initiative was launched in 2022. With projects like these, we are making a tangible difference in the environment and improving lives through job creation and education on sustainable practices.”

The initiative aligns with NTT DATA Business Solutions’ commitment to local involvement and empowerment, which strengthens farmer and community bonds through direct participation in reforestation and educational activities. The comprehensive program also includes training for local farmers on self-sustainability and best-practice tree maintenance. “Each contribution to this initiative not only supports environmental restoration but also fosters community resilience,” added Andy Steer. “We are excited to see the growth of the branded forest and the positive impacts it will bring to Madagascar’s ecosystem and its people.”
