A Template for Global SAP Deployment

Published on

There are many advantages to a global template approach to SAP deployment, allowing for standardised processes, documentation and end-user training across sites, and making future system upgrades simpler and more cost effective.

The customer, a leading global packaging supplier, has been operating on a non-SAP ERP system at most of its sites globally, with only a few utlising SAP to manage its processes. Looking to eventually be able to run all its sites using SAP, it developed an initial SAP template and deployed it to three sites in Spain, and one in Italy.

Experiencing some difficulties with the SAP WM, PP, MM and FICO elements of the system, and with fourteen sites still to go, we were bought in to review the template, ensure it was meeting best practice and then deploy it to two pilot sites.

Our experienced SAP consultants conducted a review of the template, followed by a detailed design and governance phase and the building and testing of our functional specifications, working closely with the internal team to ensure every aspect of the template was the best option for the business now and in the future

Through a combination of remote and onsite work, we then deployed the template to the two pilot sites, one in France and one in Tunisia, with localisation according to the customs and regulations of the countries in question.

The modules deployed include SAP Warehouse Management (WM), Inventory Management (IM), Sales & Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Financial Accounting & Controlling (FICO), Advance Business Application Programming (ABAP) and Security & Governance (S&G).

Having already deployed our innovative solutions for the customer at previous sites, included in the template is the rollout of IDoc Management Console™ and PreBilt™ to manage interfaces and execute key SAP WM processes on a mobile device respectively.

Our ongoing SAP support is also being extended to the sites to help them maintain efficient supply chain operations and ensure their systems continue to operate at optimum performance levels.

Commenting on this project, our head of sales, Paul Fraser, said: “Having worked with the customer for over five years on a wide variety of projects, providing our SAP support, SAP consultancy and innovative software solutions, we have developed an in depth understanding of its processes and a positive working relationship together. Coupled with our expertise across the full range of SAP supply chain and finance related modules, this made us the perfect partner to deliver on requirements, developing a quality SAP template that can now be deployed globally with localisation.”
