Delivering Datasphere in 3 months

Published on

Delaware celebrated their newly appointed Platinum Partner status at 2 events recently, The SAP Conference for Energy in Basel, Switzerland and the UKISUG Data & Analytics Symposium in London.

At the Symposium we were pleased to present the JB Cocoa story and even more pleased that over 40% of delegates came to hear it live! Thank you.

Who are JB Cocoa?

Operating for over 30 years JB Cocoa has grown to become one of the world’s major cocoa ingredient producers. Their global operations span the Americas, Europe and Africa. With presence in more than 65 countries, and a total cocoa bean processing capacity of 180,000 metric tonnes per year, their worldwide customers range from international trade houses to end users. Their products, namely cocoa mass, cocoa butter and cocoa powder, are used to produce chocolate, chocolate confectionary and cocoa-related food and beverages that are part of many everyday products.

They are committed to sustainable cocoa sourcing and manufacturing; their plants are state-of-the-art, utilising the latest technology in cocoa processing and designed for maximum energy efficiency.

However, they were struggling with visibility across their Supply Chain, particularly with reporting on Transport Management (TMS) based upon their original implementation.

It was essential that a consistent, informative, and timely solution was delivered to allow users to be able to analyse data quickly across the entire supply chain to allow them to maintain their quality and service.

How did Datasphere help solve their business problem?

SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) were chosen as the analytical toolsets to be used to provide these insights and enable users to access data to create the reports needed to make informed business decisions.

At the UKISUG we covered how Delaware worked with JB Cocoa to both learn from and overcome the challenges of the technical constraints of the original SAP S/4 implementation and the benefits, approach and architecture put in place as Delaware provided a ‘Datasphere platform for the future’ to meet the client’s complex supply chain analytics requirements and delivering timely insight into their Transport Management System (TMS).

We discussed the challenges and the benefits being brought to the business units and Delaware’s Datasphere design approach and solution architecture along with the valuable lessons learnt.

Some key learnings can be summarised as below:

  • Understand the limits of embedded S/4 analytics and know when to leverage a data warehouse and analytic tool solution.
  • Understand the end-to-end process of implementing Datasphere from data source to final output
  • Gain a better understanding of SAP Datasphere architecture and modelling options
  • Learn what works and what should be avoided and how to achieve success with Datasphere.

We shared a glimpse of the final deliverables and an insight into the customer’s continuing analytics journey.

For those who missed it we will be broadcasting this case study in a webinar in a couple of months’ time.

Watch out for an invitation from the UKISUG Team. In the meantime, should, you wish to learn more about our Datasphere expertise, or any of our SAP solutions, please get in touch.
