SAP’s Cloud Subscription Transition Option

You may have seen several media articles emerge over the last week, discussing potential plans from SAP to extend the maintenance period for on-premise ECC customers beyond 2027 (or 2030 for extended maintenance).

As our latest member research shows, nearly two-thirds of you are in the planning stage for transitioning to S/4HANA – so we know the 2027 maintenance deadline is front of mind for many members.

In response to the speculation, SAP has stated: “In the first half of 2025, SAP will announce a cloud subscription transition option designed for ERP customers with large and very complex IT landscapes who need more time to transform on their RISE with SAP journey.”

This option will consist of an SAP ERP cloud subscription including transition and business continuity services and will be offered for the period from 2031 until the end of 2033.

However, SAP has clarified that: “This is not a prolongation of the mainstream maintenance for SAP Business Suite beyond the 2020 communicated deadlines of end of 2027 respectively end of 2030 for the extended maintenance offer.”
